I know that this has been rumored before: that the next generation of Toyobaru twins would use the FD Miata chassis and perhaps drivetrain. Is this deal still in the works? Is this why Mazda is offering the RF and not a true coupe? Perhaps their deal with Toyota and Subaru precludes them from making one...
Anyone have some inside information, or more details than what I’ve mentioned?

I don’t see the reason why Mazda would create direct competition in a market space they have owned for years

Same reason they’re doing the 124. They make money off of each one sold, even if they license to or build it for another manufacturer. The bigger the market, the more the profit margin increases for each unit.

The more Miata chassis in the world, the better.
For Mazda, and all automotive-enthusiast-kind.

280 might be a challenge from the factory. Neither Mazda, Toyota or Subaru has gotten serious about about putting that kind of power in these cars. Hopefully someone sees the opening and does it, but the aftermarket is always an option in the short term.
Who wants to stop at 280?! Ha - https://www.flyinmiata.com/V8/

I know a thing or 2 about that, but I like the idea of a warranty, Mazda / Subaru here offer life time warranty lol

Nice! But yes, I agree - factory fit, finish, testing and warranty are very nice. If Mazda can quit building every imaginable size of crossover, maybe they can find to time to give us some Mazdaspeed goodness.
